15 Creative PE Activities Using UltraSoft Scooter Hockey Packs
The UltraSoft Scooter Hockey Packs provide a safe and fun way for students to engage in scooter-based team sports. What makes this product stand out is its exclusive UltraSoft foam blade design that ensures safe play, even during intense scooter hockey matches. The set includes soft foam hockey sticks with grip-friendly shafts, a soft foam puck, two UltraSkin® balls, and enough equipment for up to 12 players at once. While perfect for floor hockey, this set opens the door to countless physical education activities that develop fundamental movement skills while keeping safety, excitement, and inclusion in mind.
Below are 15 engaging and original physical education activities that use the UltraSoft Scooter Hockey Packs to teach a wide variety of fundamental movement skills. These activities are adaptable for both small and large groups of students across elementary, middle, and high school levels.
1. Scooter Shuffle Showdown: Students sit on scooters and shuffle across the gym using their legs. They must use their hockey sticks to push the puck to a target zone. Teaches scooting, pushing, and directional control.
2. Foam Blade Freeze Tag: One team is “it” and uses UltraSoft sticks to tag others while on scooters. Tagged students freeze until a teammate touches them with a stick to unfreeze. Builds agility, dodging, and teamwork.
3. Puck Push Relay: Students take turns pushing a foam puck around cones using their sticks while on scooters. Time each team using the MVP Tabletop Scoreboard. Develops coordination and maneuvering while scooting.
4. Stick-Handling Slalom: Set up a cone slalom. Students weave through while controlling the puck with their sticks from a scooter. Enhances stick-handling, spatial awareness, and turning skills.
5. Scooter Hockey Shootout: Run a classic shootout format. Students scoot up and shoot on a goalie using the foam puck or ball. Builds accuracy, striking, and tactical movement.
6. Pass and Dash: In pairs, students pass the puck while on scooters, then scoot to a new location after each pass. This works on passing, receiving, and locomotor transitions.
7. Foam Blade Balance Blasters: Students balance foam pucks or balls on their sticks while scooting a set distance. Develops balance, focus, and coordination.
8. One-Hand Wonder Race: Students must scoot and play using only one hand on the stick. Increases core engagement and challenges fine motor control while scooting.
9. Crazy Cone Capture: Students use their stick to lift, tip, or knock over cones while scooting. Focuses on hand-eye coordination and scooting maneuverability.
10. Zone Defense Derby: Assign teams to defend or attack specific zones using sticks to block or pass. Teaches defensive positioning and strategic gameplay.
11. Soft Puck Shuffleboard: Scooting players push the puck toward zones marked on the floor with tape for points. Mimics shuffleboard with stick striking. Develops precision and scoring strategy.
12. Musical Scooters: Similar to musical chairs but with scooters. When music stops, students must scoot to a puck and control it. Last one in control is out. Promotes reaction time and focus.
13. Scooter Paddle Pick-Up: Scatter foam pucks around the gym. Students use sticks to collect as many as possible and bring them to their goal. Sharpens precision, agility, and collection skills.
14. Goalie Gauntlet: Rotate students into a goalie role while others attempt shots from scooters. Focuses on reaction time, positioning, and teamwork.
15. Hockey Math Match: Place math problems on cones. Students must scoot to a cone, solve the problem, and shoot the puck into the correct answer goal. Combines cognitive and motor skill development.
