Varying Lengths

Three available javelin lengths conform to students' unique needs and abilities. Teach the fundamentals of throwing and build confidence with shorter, lighter 27"L javelins. Train more experienced students with longer 27"L or 42"L javelins. Color of each varies. Choose from the following options:

  • Turbojav
    • Beginner, 27"L, 300 g
    • Intermediate, 27"L, 400g
    • Advanced, 42"L, 500g
  • Turbo Spear
    • 42"L, 600g
    • 72"L, 700g

Safe and Durable

Durable polyethylene construction allows these javelins to withstand impact on any surface, indoors or out. Additionally, their soft noses ensure they will not scratch floors or hurt users.

15 Engaging Activities Using TurboJav to Teach Fundamental Movement Skills

The TurboJav is a soft, safe javelin designed for teaching proper throwing technique to students of all ages. Its durable yet lightweight polyurethane construction makes it ideal for indoor and outdoor use, and its safety tip reduces the risk of injury. What sets the TurboJav apart is its design—engineered by an Olympic javelin champion—to promote correct mechanics in a fun and non-intimidating way. Below are 15 original activity ideas that incorporate the TurboJav to build fundamental movement skills through dynamic, creative play that’s perfect for both small and large PE classes.

1. Jav-A-Loon Launch: Students throw their TurboJav toward a line of Gopher Rainbow DuraHoops. The goal is to land the TurboJav inside a hoop for accuracy practice. Emphasizes throwing, aiming, and coordination.

2. Target Turbo Toss: Set up cones from the Gopher Rainbow Cone Set as targets at various distances. Students try to knock them down using proper javelin form. Develops accuracy, power, and throwing technique.

3. TurboJav Trek-and-Toss: Combine running and throwing by having students sprint to a mark, throw, retrieve, and repeat in a relay format. Builds endurance, running, and throwing skills.

4. Javelin Jump & Jab: After a standing long jump over a line, students immediately launch their TurboJav forward. Combines jumping and throwing with fluid motion transitions.

5. TurboJav Tic-Tac-Throw: Lay out a 3x3 grid using floor tape. Students attempt to land their TurboJav in a square to make 3 in a row. Reinforces strategic throwing and coordination.

6. Spin & Sling: Students perform a 360° spin before releasing their TurboJav. Teaches body control, balance, and timing.

7. Over, Under, Launch Relay: In teams, students pass the TurboJav over one head and under the next, then the last person throws it to a target. Promotes teamwork, agility, and accuracy.

8. Javelin Jousting Dash: Place TurboJavs on cones across a field. Students sprint, grab, throw, and race back in relay style. Emphasizes sprinting, agility, and accuracy.

9. TurboJav Tug-of-Throw: Pairs of students compete by alternating throws, trying to land closest to a midline marker without crossing it. Teaches precision and control.

10. Bullseye Blast: Paint or tape a large bullseye on a wall or use Gopher Wall Targets. Students try to score by hitting the target area with their TurboJav. Great for indoor throwing.

11. Jav Line Leap: After throwing, students must jump over their own TurboJav where it lands. This introduces estimation and jumping, combined with throwing skill.

12. Field of Flings: Create a large playing field with scattered targets (cones, hoops, mats). Students try to land their TurboJav at as many locations as possible in a time limit. Encourages strategy and throwing diversity.

13. Rocket Relay: Each team member must complete a run, throw, and retrieve sequence before tagging the next person. Focus on endurance, speed, and precision.

14. TurboJav Technique Stations: Rotate students through stations: standing throws, moving throws, one-knee throws, and target practice. Builds a complete skill foundation.

15. TurboJav Target Golf: Create a “golf course” with cones as holes. Students take turns trying to land the TurboJav next to each cone in the fewest throws possible. Combines strategy, aim, and control.
