15 Skill-Based PE Activities Using TumblePro Individual Teach Mats

The Gopher TumblePro Individual Teach Mats are uniquely designed to support individual skill instruction with visual guidance right on the mat. Each mat features printed instructional cues for basic gymnastic movements such as rolls, cartwheels, bridges, and more, making them ideal for teaching fundamental movement skills safely and independently. The 1-3/8" thick foam provides ample cushioning for a wide range of non-locomotor and body control activities. With their compact size and skill-specific visuals, these mats are perfect for stations, circuit training, or personalized skill development across all grade levels.

1. Roll Race Relay: In teams, students perform a forward roll down their mat, sprint around a cone, and tag the next teammate. Teaches rolling, running, and team sequencing.

2. Skill Switch Circuit: Place different mats (cartwheel, roll, bridge, etc.) at each station. Students rotate every 60 seconds and practice each skill. Enhances variety and spatial understanding.

3. Match My Move: In pairs, one student performs a move on their mat, and the partner must copy it on theirs. Builds observation, mirroring, and communication.

4. Bridge Tag Challenge: All students hold the bridge pose; one is “it” and must crawl under others while they hold position. Teaches body control and static strength.

5. One-Mat Obstacle Path: Students combine a roll, a balance, and a pose using only their one mat, creating a mini obstacle course. Builds transitional movement and sequencing.

6. Follow the Form Freeze: Students perform a printed skill and freeze in a “super pose” for a class count of 5. Reinforces stability and confidence in form.

7. Rainbow Bridge Relay: Use several mats in a line; students roll across one, jump over another, and hold a bridge on the last. Combines rolling, jumping, and balance.

8. Cartwheel Kick Count: Students perform cartwheels and try to “stick” the ending with balanced arms up. Count how many they complete with good form. Builds consistency and core control.

9. Roll and Reach: Students perform a forward roll, then stretch forward in a seated position as far as they can. Combines rolling and flexibility.

10. Roll & Goal: After completing a forward roll, students toss a ball into a hoop. Combines rolling and object control.

11. Twist & Tumble: Students start in a seated twist, perform a log roll, then repeat twist on the other side. Integrates twisting, rolling, and core engagement.

12. Skill Station Storytime: Each skill on the mat is connected to a movement story (e.g., “Be the bridge that connects the river!”). Encourages creative movement and imaginative play.

13. Hop, Drop, and Roll: Students hop onto the mat, drop to a tuck, then roll forward. Fun locomotor sequence teaching hopping, dropping, and rolling.

14. Cartwheel Corners: Students start in one corner of the mat, perform a cartwheel diagonally across, and land in a corner. Develops spatial awareness and angular movement.

15. Yoga Flow on the Go: Combine bridge, seated twist, and forward fold into a yoga flow routine using the mat's visual cues. Teaches balance, flexibility, and transitions.
