Spikeball Sets
Dive, volley, spike! Fast-paced Spikeball games will get students' hearts racing!
Spikeball brings some of the most heart-pounding action of volleyball into an up-close, fast-paced format! Two teams of 2 stand on opposite sides of the net. Once the ball is served, sides disappear and it’s completely free play! Teams have up to 3 hits to “spike” the ball on the net, with the first team to 21 winning.
High-Action, Fast-Paced Games
Spikeball features a circular, hoop-shaped net and frame. Two teams of two players each gather around this ring. One player starts the game by serving the ball down on the net so it ricochets up at his/her opponents. The other team then has up to 3 hits (like volleyball) to get control of the ball and spike it back at the net. If the other team misses, you score! There are no boundaries or limitations—players can hit the ball from anywhere. That makes this a great game to play in large indoor or outdoor spaces. The first team to earn 21 points is the winner.
Age-appropriate sets vary in size and strength according to player abilities.
- Spikeball Rookie. Includes a larger ball and net to help beginners with skill-development and hand-eye coordination before moving to the Original version. Set includes 1 net (45" dia), 1 Rookie ball (6.5" dia), storage bag, and a rule book with 4 game variations.
- Spikeball Original. The plastic frame disassembles quickly for easy storage. The net attaches to hooks around the frame, keeping it taut during gameplay. Set includes a net (36" dia), 3 original balls (3.5" dia), and a carrying bag to store and transport it all easily.
- Spikeball Weekender. Classic Spikeball got an upgrade! Bouncier net and balls with more texture lead to longer rallies. An improved, hardy frame has thicker legs to keep it in place. New alignment tabs make assembling the frame simple. Set includes a net (36" dia), 3 Weekender balls (3.5" dia), and a carrying bag.
- Spikeball Pro. Features a 33% stronger frame and legs for enhanced durability. A dimpled ball puts a spin on shots and reacts similar to a golf ball. Set includes 1 net (36” dia), 2 Pro balls (3.5” dia), official serving line, ball pump/gauge, and backpack for convenient storage.
Spikeball Activity Ideas and Gameplay Variations
These Spikeball activity ideas help students build their skills, focusing on teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and ball control. Each variation or lead-up game offers a unique twist on traditional Spikeball gameplay, making it fun and challenging for players of all skill levels.
1. Spikeball Speed Rally: Teams play regular Spikeball, but the focus is on maintaining fast, continuous rallies without pauses between points. This helps improve reaction time and quick decision-making.
2. No-Spike Zone: Players are not allowed to spike the ball directly onto the net and must use softer hits to score. This game helps players develop finesse and control instead of relying on power.
3. Serve Accuracy Challenge: Players practice serving the ball into specific zones or targets placed around the net. This drill emphasizes accuracy and control during serves.
4. Spikeball King of the Court: The winning team stays on the court to face a new challenger after each round. This keeps the pace fast and competitive, with teams working hard to defend their position.
5. Circle Rotation Spikeball: After every point, all players rotate one spot clockwise around the net. This keeps the game dynamic, allowing students to play with different teammates and practice quick adjustments.
6. Continuous King Rotation: The winner of each point stays on the court, while the losing team rotates out, and new players rotate in from a line. This variation creates a fast-paced competition where players must quickly rotate in and out to keep the action going.
7. Team Swap Spikeball: After each point, players switch teammates, mixing up the teams constantly. This rotation helps build communication skills with different partners and encourages flexibility in playing styles.
8. Winner Moves Up, Loser Moves Down: Set up multiple Spikeball nets in a ladder format. After each round, the winning team moves up a net, while the losing team moves down, creating a constant flow of competition and skill development.
9. 3-Team Rotation Spike: Play with three teams rotating in a triangular formation around the net. After each rally, the losing team rotates out, the winning team stays, and the third team rotates in, keeping everyone active and engaged.
10. Timed Switch-Up: Players compete in traditional Spikeball matches for 2-3 minutes. When the timer goes off, everyone must quickly find a new net and partner to start the next round, promoting quick transitions, teamwork with different players, and new strategies each time.
