Safari Climbing Obstacles

Add exciting new challenges to enhance the traversing experience!
You must choose an option from above before adding to your cart.

Combine these wall-mounted obstacles with traditional traversing walls to help students work on endurance, spatial awareness, flexibility, upper body strength, and core strength. Mount them directly to the wall above the climbing wall to add a challenge when students reach the top, or add them between wall sections to lengthen the course.

Mounting brackets allow teachers to lift, store, and lock the obstacles for additional safety between classes. Each obstacle is made of durable, powder-coated steel for long-lasting use. Sets include hardware and activity guides. All frames are 96"L x 24"W.

Safari Climbing Obstacles Activity Ideas

The Safari Climbing Obstacles are durable, colorful, and lightweight foam pieces designed to bring safe, imaginative, and engaging climbing experiences to any PE setting. These jungle animal-themed climbing structures vary in height and shape, giving students different levels of challenge as they build strength, coordination, and confidence. Their whimsical designs make them especially inviting for young children, while their sturdy construction makes them suitable for a range of climbing, crawling, and balancing activities. Below are 15 fun, skill-building activity ideas for using the Safari Climbing Obstacles to teach key fundamental movement skills to students in elementary through high school.

1. Monkey Mountain Maneuver: Students take turns climbing up and down each obstacle in a specific order, focusing on controlled climbing and proper landing form to enhance body control and spatial awareness.

2. Crocodile Crawl Crawl-Off: Set climbing obstacles as checkpoints; students crawl under, around, and between them using bear crawls or army crawls to build strength and spatial navigation.

3. Safari Stretch Stations: Use each obstacle as a stretching station where students perform non-locomotor movements like reaching, bending, and twisting while interacting with the structures.

4. Elephant Step Escapade: Students step up and over each obstacle slowly, practicing balance and alternating leg strength in a stair-stepper-style challenge.

5. Climb & Count Quest: Students climb on a piece, count aloud a jungle animal fact, then move to the next. Adds cognitive engagement to climbing and stopping.

6. Hide & Sway Safari: Students hide behind or between climbing obstacles and sway side to side when “discovered.” Promotes swaying and core engagement.

7. Jungle Gym Jumpstart: Begin each class with a 5-minute open circuit of climbing, stepping, and balancing to warm up key muscles and activate movement patterns.

8. Leopard Leap Line: Students take turns jumping from a marker onto a climbing piece, focusing on distance jumping and soft landings.

9. Animal Action Imitation: Assign a jungle animal to each obstacle. Students climb to the top, then act out the movement of the animal while balancing in place.

10. Climb & Freeze Frame: Students climb onto any piece and freeze in a silly pose when music stops. Promotes balance, static holds, and creativity.

11. King of the Jungle Hold: Challenge students to hold a balance pose for 10 seconds on top of each climbing structure. Focus on single-leg balance and body awareness.

12. Jungle Jam Relay Race: Teams take turns climbing up, over, and around the obstacles, then tag the next teammate. Enhances agility, teamwork, and safe transitions.

13. Mission Safari Stack: Place soft items (like Beanbags) on top of each obstacle. Students must climb up, grab an item, and deliver it to a bucket, improving coordination and climbing with purpose.

14. Rhino Run & Rest: Alternate running laps with climbing rests — after each lap around the gym, students climb up and take a breather, promoting interval training and controlled movements.

15. Climb & Catch Challenge: Students climb an obstacle and toss a beanbag to a partner below, who must catch it. Builds coordination and safe object manipulation at elevation.
