15 Skill-Building Movement Activities Using Rainbow Toss-N-Chip Target Nets
The Rainbow Toss-N-Chip Target Nets are uniquely designed with two distinct sides—one upright for tossing and one angled for chipping—offering versatile opportunities for skill development in physical education settings. Their large, colorful target zones help students develop throwing, chipping, and aiming accuracy using soft balls or foam golf balls. Because each net is brightly color-coded and lightweight, it’s easy to set up in stations or circuits for individual, partner, or group work. Below are 15 creative activities that leverage the dual-sided functionality of these targets to teach a wide range of fundamental movement skills including locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulative, body control, and coordination sequences.
1. Chip & Chase Challenge: Students chip a foam golf ball into the angled side of the target using a Soft-Stix Golf Club, then run, leap, or gallop to retrieve their ball. Teaches striking, galloping, and retrieval agility.
2. Rainbow Ringers: Students underhand toss beanbags into the upright side of each color-coded net for points. Reinforces throwing accuracy and hand-eye coordination.
3. Balance & Beanbag Bombs: Standing on one foot, students aim and toss beanbags at the upright targets. Develops static balance and throwing precision.
4. Sliding Shot Relay: Students slide sideways between each net before taking a shot at the angled target. Builds sliding locomotion and striking skills.
5. Around the Arc: Place the 6 Rainbow nets in a semicircle. Students rotate through each station, using different movements (e.g., hopping, skipping) before tossing. Teaches locomotor variety and targeting.
6. Chip It Like It’s Hot: Students chip foam golf balls into the angled nets from varying distances. Encourages striking power control and depth judgment.
7. Hop ‘n’ Pop: Students hop 5 times, then try to “pop” their ball into the upright net with a high arc throw. Focuses on hopping and overhand throwing.
8. Station Swing Set: At each station, students use different objects (golf club, hand, paddle) to strike a ball into the angled target. Develops striking variety and equipment familiarity.
9. Kneel & Knock Challenge: Students kneel and attempt to chip or toss the ball into a target. Strengthens core stability and fine motor control.
10. Rainbow Round-Up: Teams race to make one successful chip into each color net. Encourages team strategy, striking, and coordination.
11. Softball Sprint Splash: Students toss a ball into a net, then sprint to collect a poly spot. Reinforces throwing, sprinting, and quick stopping.
12. Angle Attack Arena: Students rotate around the angled sides, each using different strategies to chip a ball in. Teaches spatial awareness and target variance.
13. Double Trouble Toss-Off: Students must throw two beanbags in quick succession at two targets. Teaches dual-task coordination and speed accuracy.
14. Bouncing Bullseye Bash: Students try to bounce a tennis ball into the upright net. Develops bouncing and target estimation.
15. Rainbow Rebounders: Place angled targets opposite gym walls. Students bounce balls off the wall into the net. Builds rebounding prediction and striking skill.
