15 Creative FMS Activities Using Rainbow Premiere Throw-Down Bases

The Rainbow Premiere Throw-Down Bases from Gopher Sport offer vibrant color-coding and enhanced durability, making them perfect for defining boundaries and organizing movement-based activities. What sets these bases apart is their textured bottom surface for added grip and their rainbow color set, which allows for instant visual sorting, team organization, and creative movement pattern design. These low-profile, skid-resistant rubber bases are excellent for indoor and outdoor play, and ideal for teaching fundamental movement skills (FMS) through a wide variety of imaginative and skill-building games and challenges. Below are 15 unique activities you can implement in physical education class to target locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulative, stability, and body control skills.

1. Color Coded Chaos: Scatter all six colored bases across the gym. Call out a color, and students must move (run, skip, hop) to that color using a different locomotor skill each round. Focus: Locomotor Movements and Agility.

2. Rainbow Relay Races: Divide students into teams by base color. Students race to perform different movement patterns to and from their team's color-coded base. Focus: Running, Skipping, Leaping.

3. Hop-A-Color Challenge: Arrange the bases in a random pattern. Students must hop on one foot from base to base, only touching specific colors. Focus: Hopping and Color Recognition.

4. Gallop to the Goal: Create a galloping path with rainbow bases. Students gallop from base to base, switching leads at each base. Focus: Galloping and Rhythm.

5. Rainbow Ring Jump: Place the bases in a circular layout. Students jump around the ring in both directions. Focus: Jumping, Landing, and Balance.

6. Color Dash & Freeze: Call out a base color and a movement (e.g., "Blue – skip!"). Students move to that color and freeze in a strong position. Focus: Locomotor Variety and Stopping.

7. Rainbow Run & Roll: Students roll a ball from one base to a same-colored base across the gym. Focus: Rolling and Color Matching.

8. Bop and Hop: Place a soft object like a beanbag on each base. Students hop to each base and bop the object off using a hand or foot. Focus: Hopping and Manipulation.

9. Base Twister Blitz: Call out "Right foot red!" or "Left hand yellow!" Students move only that body part to the base. Focus: Stretching, Bending, and Coordination.

10. Kick-the-Color: Set up small balls on each base. Students kick the ball to a matching colored base. Focus: Kicking and Accuracy.

11. Rainbow Reaction Walk: Teacher plays music; when it stops, calls out a color and movement style. Students must travel to that base using the given movement (e.g., crawl to green). Focus: Creative Movement and Spatial Awareness.

12. Around the Rainbow: Set up bases in a large oval. Students move around the oval performing different FMS at each color (e.g., jump at red, slide at blue, gallop at yellow). Focus: Multi-Skill Integration.

13. Rainbow Dodge Run: Scatter bases as safe zones. Students must run while dodging soft balls (rolled or gently tossed) and can pause only on a base. Focus: Dodging and Body Control.

14. Color Path Choreography: Create movement "routines" using color sequences. E.g., "Red: hop, Orange: spin, Green: slide." Students follow the path and do the moves. Focus: Agility, Coordination, and Patterning.

15. Spectrum Speed Stacker: Stack small cones or cups on each base of the same color as quickly as possible, then move to the next. Focus: Coordination and Speed.
