15 Creative PE Activities Using the Rainbow PowerTac Biggie Training Volleyball

The Rainbow PowerTac Biggie Training Volleyball is an oversized, lightweight volleyball with a tacky composite cover that provides an easy grip and slower flight—making it the ideal training tool for younger students and beginners. What sets it apart is its larger size, which offers a greater surface area for easier tracking and contact, and its extra-soft grip for confident learning of bumping, setting, and striking skills. Its vibrant rainbow colors support group identification and visual engagement. These 15 original activities take full advantage of the Biggie Volleyball’s forgiving design to teach and reinforce fundamental movement skills (FMS) in safe, inclusive, and energetic ways for students of all ages.

1. Biggie Bump Bonanza: Students work in pairs to bump the oversized ball back and forth, focusing on control and upward trajectory. Develops striking, hand-eye coordination, and teamwork.

2. PowerTac Rainbow Rotation: Students rotate through six rainbow-colored stations, each emphasizing a different skill: serve, set, bump, toss, spike, and roll. Builds skill variety and movement fluency.

3. Spike Strike Station: Students toss the ball up and spike it toward a soft target (e.g., wall mat or floor hoop). Teaches striking with power and jumping control.

4. Biggie Wall Ball: Students strike the ball against a wall, trying to keep it in motion with legal hits. Reinforces control and anticipation.

5. Rainbow Race to Serve: Assign colors and create serve stations. Students compete to serve their colored Biggie ball into targets. Reinforces serving accuracy and goal setting.

6. Sit, Set, Score: From seated positions, students set the Biggie ball back and forth. Great for core control, coordination, and inclusivity.

7. Leap & Bump Relay: Teams leap over poly spots, bump the ball to a partner, then run back. Develops leaping, striking, and relay teamwork.

8. Color Code Chaos: Students move to a colored hoop matching their Biggie ball and perform a skill (e.g., spike at wall, set in air). Encourages spatial awareness and skill differentiation.

9. Biggie Volleyball Keep-Up: Small groups try to keep the ball airborne using legal volleyball moves. Teaches cooperation, striking accuracy, and timing.

10. Rainbow Target Toss: Students toss or set the ball into a hoop or zone that matches their ball's color. Enhances visual tracking and precision.

11. Giant Partner Set: Pairs stand close and perform soft, controlled sets, gradually increasing distance. Reinforces progressive learning and communication.

12. Biggie Spike Line: Students take turns spiking the Biggie ball over a net or line. Partners retrieve and rotate. Encourages jumping, power striking, and rotational play.

13. Rainbow Island Escape: Students must pass the ball to partners standing on rainbow-colored poly spots, "islands," without stepping off. Develops precision passing and team trust.

14. Set-to-Target Wall Challenge: Students set the ball against the wall, aiming to hit a taped square or colored dot. Builds target awareness and consistency.

15. Biggie Bump Musical Movement: Play music while students bump the ball with any legal hit. When the music stops, they freeze and balance the ball. Combines movement variation and body control.
