ProTuff Half-Cones
Made with flexible polyethylene, these field cones are made to withstand heavy use. Two sizes provide extra versatility for training or sports. These are the most popular half cones we have to offer.
Tough & Durable Construction
With durable polyethylene construction and 50% greater thickness than other half-cones, these cones will never tear, crack, or lose their shape. Even if stepped on, they simply bend and pop back to their original form.
Simple Stacking
Save space in your storage closets by stacking these easy-nesting cones! Not only do they take up the space of just one cone while not in use, activity setup and takedown is also faster and easier. A 12"H Storage Caddy, sold separately, holds up to 75 half-cones (in either size) and makes cleanup even faster.
Several Sizes & Colors
With multiple sizes and colors to choose from, teachers have many more options to organize their classes. The vibrant Rainbow colors are extremely easily to see and allow for advanced organization techniques for storing equipment, designating teams, and more.
Choose 2-1/2"H x 8" dia or 5"H x 12" dia cones in Rainbow. Orange is available in 2-1/2"H cones.
15 Engaging Activity Ideas Using ProTuff Half Cones
The ProTuff Half Cones are durable, low-profile, flexible cones designed to stand up to rough play, indoor and outdoor conditions, and high-traffic areas. Their wide base and soft, no-tip design make them ideal for marking boundaries, stations, or zones without becoming a tripping hazard. Unlike standard cones, these are built to bounce back when stepped on or rolled over, making them perfect for active movement games with younger students or high-intensity drills with older ones. Below are 15 creative and effective activity ideas that leverage the unique durability and design of the ProTuff Half Cones to teach fundamental movement skills across all grade levels.
1. Cone Hop Highway: Set up ProTuff Half Cones in zigzag lines and have students jump side to side over them using both feet together. Teaches jumping and landing while avoiding obstacles.
2. Half-Cone Hurdle Hustle: Arrange cones in rows with increasing distance between them. Students leap over them using one foot at a time. Emphasizes leaping and power control.
3. ProTuff Pattern Pursuit: Lay cones in complex floor patterns. Students follow the patterns using various locomotor skills (e.g., galloping, skipping) to develop agility and movement sequencing.
4. Slide the Spectrum: Place colored ProTuff Half Cones in a lateral line. Students slide sideways from one cone to the next, touching each one. Reinforces lateral sliding and balance.
5. Color Sprint Circuit: Spread cones of different colors throughout the gym. Call out a color and movement (e.g., "Red – skipping!"). Students race to the correct cone using the movement called.
6. Tiptoe Through the Tuff Cones: Arrange cones close together. Students must tiptoe carefully between them without touching. Focuses on balance, control, and spatial awareness.
7. Cone Capture Chaos: Place small beanbags under each cone. Students race to uncover, grab, and replace them using different locomotor skills (hopping, crawling). Adds a manipulative twist.
8. Rainbow Ring Runaround: Place Gopher 3-in-1 Activity Hoops around half cones. Students leap into each hoop, spin around the cone, and leap out. Combines leaping, turning, and balance.
9. Freeze Tag with Cone Homes: When tagged, students must run to a cone “home” and perform a stretch (displayed nearby) for 10 seconds before rejoining the game.
10. ProTuff Path of Power: Space cones far apart to create long jumping zones. Students use maximum effort to jump from cone to cone, promoting power generation and landing technique.
11. Skip-a-Cone Scramble: In pairs, students skip in opposite directions around cone-marked pathways. When they meet, they perform a quick action (high-five, jump-turn) before continuing.
12. Dodging Dome Dance: Scatter cones randomly across the floor. Students must dodge and weave through the field without stepping on cones while music plays. Teaches dodging, reaction, and spatial awareness.
13. Half Cone Hat Relay: Students balance cones on their heads and walk across the gym. If the cone falls, they freeze and perform five balancing poses before continuing. Teaches posture and control.
14. Cone to Cone Catch: Partner students across cones. Toss a ball back and forth while gradually increasing the distance between cones. Improves catching and throwing accuracy.
15. Tuff Target Toss: Assign each cone a point value and place them at different distances. Students throw foam discs or balls aiming to hit or land near cones. Combines throwing and math integration.
