TumblePro Varia 2" Triple-Layered Foam Rainbow Cheer Mats
Designed specifically for high-impact activities like cheerleading, gymnastics, and martial arts, our Varia foam mats feature a unique triple-layer design for a unique combination of firmness and forgiveness. Plus, Rainbow colors on 1’ or 2’ panels add a burst of fun into tumbling games!
Two layers of our firmest foam surround a soft urethane core for a rigid yet forgiving feel. Mats are 2” thick with a semi-firm feel and exceptional shock absorption to prevent bottoming out under heavy use.
Smooth, nylon-reinforced 14 oz antimicrobial vinyl covers are flame-retardant, washable, and mildew-resistant. Double-reinforced, nylon-stitched inside seams ensure durability, maximum safety, and longevity.
It’s easy to string together mats thanks to hook-and-loop fasteners on 2 ends. Or accommodate single users for specific movements in smaller areas. Folding mats collapse into 1’ or 2' sections for easy storage and can be stacked for maximum space efficiency when not in use.

15 Engaging Movement Activities Using Gopher TumblePro Varia 2" Triple-Layered Foam Rainbow Cheer Mats
The Gopher TumblePro Varia 2" Triple-Layered Foam Rainbow Cheer Mats offer premium support and safety for all types of movement-based physical education activities. With their triple-layered foam construction and color-coded rainbow panels, these mats are designed to absorb impact while providing a stable yet comfortable surface for tumbling, gymnastics, cheer, or balance-focused activities. The hook-and-loop fasteners allow you to connect multiple mats securely for larger group participation or obstacle courses. These 15 activity ideas creatively use the mats to teach a variety of fundamental movement skills, from non-locomotor skills like balancing and twisting to locomotor skills like jumping, leaping, and rolling.
1. Mat Hop Mania: Students hop from one rainbow panel to another on the mat, only landing on colors called out by the teacher. Builds hopping, color recognition, and coordination.
2. Roll & Rainbow: Students practice safe log rolls across the mats, aiming to stop on a specific color panel. Focuses on rolling, spatial awareness, and body control.
3. Balancing Beamlines: Lay mats in a long line and challenge students to balance along a single color stripe with arms outstretched. Develops static balance and focus.
4. Jump & Stick It!: Students perform two-footed jumps onto a selected color panel and must “stick” the landing without moving. Teaches jumping, landing, and control.
5. Rainbow Rock & Roll: Students rock back on their backs and roll up to a standing position on cue. Builds core strength and body awareness.
6. Twist & Touch Tag: Students twist their torso and touch alternating color panels with opposite hands while staying in place. Develops twisting and non-locomotor coordination.
7. Cheer Mat Chase: One student chases another while only stepping on certain color panels across multiple mats. Teaches agility and reaction.
8. Leapfrog Line-Up: In groups, students leapfrog over teammates lined up along the mat, then take their place. Focuses on leaping, landing, and team coordination.
9. Mat Maze Balance Challenge: Create a zigzag path by folding mats and standing up to create a maze.
10. Somersault Safari: Students perform controlled forward rolls from one end of the mat to the other, stopping on a designated color. Builds rolling, neck awareness, and spatial alignment.
11. Freeze Frame Flex: Students freeze in a balance pose on a called-out color and hold for 10 seconds. Develops static balance and concentration.
12. Tumble Teamwork Relay: In teams, students complete a tumbling sequence (roll, jump, twist) across connected mats, tagging the next team member. Encourages group sequencing and transitional movement.
13. Rainbow Island Adventure: Each mat is an “island” that students must leap to without touching the floor (“lava”). Emphasizes jumping, leaping, and spatial planning.
14. Bop & Bounce Challenge: Using Rhino Skin Softi Balls, students bounce the ball, catch it, and immediately jump onto a nearby panel. Teaches bouncing, jumping, and catching.
15. Bridge the Rainbow: Students create a “bridge” (back arch) across the mat while others crawl under. Promotes strength, flexibility, and team interaction.
