15 High-Energy FMS Activities Using the Gopher PitchBack Net

The Gopher PitchBack Net is a durable, angled rebounder that sends balls right back to the thrower, mimicking real-game reactions and enabling endless solo or group skill practice. Its sturdy frame and responsive netting make it perfect for developing hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and throwing or striking accuracy. Unlike static targets, the Gopher PitchBack challenges students to react to unpredictably rebounding balls, which adds excitement and realism. Below are 15 unique, skill-building physical education activities designed to use this product for developing a wide range of fundamental movement skills (FMS).

1. Rebound Rocket Throws: Students throw balls at the net and try to catch the rebound before it hits the ground. Emphasizes throwing and catching.

2. Jump & Grab Jam: Students throw the ball, jump as it rebounds, and catch it mid-air. Builds jumping, landing, and reaction time.

3. Pitch, Pop, & Pivot: After each throw to the net, students must pivot 180° and return to their original stance before catching. Teaches throwing, turning, and agility.

4. Rainbow Relay Rebounds: In teams, students take turns throwing at the net and racing to catch the rebound, then tag the next player. Combines throwing, catching, and sprinting.

5. Side Shuffle Snag: Students shuffle side to side between cones, then throw at the PitchBack and try to catch the rebound while moving. Works on lateral movement and coordination.

6. Partner Pop-Up Passes: One student throws to the net and the partner catches the rebound. Rotate roles. Reinforces teamwork, throwing, and catching.

7. Catch & Clap: Students throw the ball, clap a set number of times before catching the rebound. Sharpens reaction and timing.

8. Throw-Stop-Drop: Students throw, freeze in a pose, and then catch the ball. Encourages body control and timing.

9. Double Trouble Toss: Two students throw balls simultaneously at the net and try to catch each other’s rebounds. Practices teamwork and awareness.

10. Underhand Accuracy Arc: Students practice underhand throws from marked distances, trying to hit specific zones of the net. Reinforces precision and control.

11. Fast Feet Flick: Students perform fast feet footwork for 5 seconds, then throw and catch. Builds agility and coordination.

12. Sit & Strike Session: Students sit and throw balls into the net, focusing on accuracy and upper-body mechanics. Great for non-locomotor strength and control.

13. Behind-the-Back Bounce: Students toss the ball behind their back into the net and try to catch the rebound. Enhances spatial awareness and body control.

14. Strike & Sprint: After striking the ball into the PitchBack, students must run to a cone and back before letting it bounce once. Combines striking, running, and timing.

15. Zone Toss Target: Use floor tape to create target zones in front of the net. Students throw from various angles to rebound the ball into different zones. Builds accuracy and aiming skill.
