The importance of teamwork is at the forefront as students collaborate to make a square using a large, nylon loop during SEL activities. Teams need to discuss and create a plan to form their square. Teachers then assign up to 2 students as directors to serve as the eyes for the group, while the rest of the team is blindfolded and stays silent. Directors tell their blindfolded teammates where to go. After students believe they created the shape, they remove their blindfolds, reflect on the shape they made, and talk about the roles communication and teamwork played.

Teachers can vary the difficulty of the communication activities by allowing blindfolded players to speak or use nonverbal cues like tapping to communicate, while directors maintain safety. Players could also play without blindfolds, while everyone uses nonverbal communication to direct their teammates. Students can discuss difficulties they faced such as unclear signals or too many people talking at once, and then develop methods to overcome these obstacles.

Loop (24’L x 2”W) is made of nylon webbing and x-box stitched for enhanced durability. Soft, nylon blindfolds (6-1/2”L x 3-1/2”W) are comfortable and include an adjustable strap for a custom fit.

Small Set includes 1 loop, 6 blindfolds, and activity instructions. Large Set includes 4 Small Sets.
