Activity Ideas Using the AlleyOop Goals
The AlleyOop Goals are incredibly versatile, with their easy height adjustability, durable construction, and portability. These unique features make them perfect for a wide range of activities that enhance fundamental movement skills. Below are creative and engaging ways to use the AlleyOop Goals to teach students physical literacy, ensuring they develop coordination, agility, and manipulative skills in fun and exciting ways.
1. Catch and Dunk: In pairs, one student tosses the ball through the 6’ goal, while their partner stands under the goal, ready to catch and “dunk” it back through. Perfect for practicing catching and basic basketball shooting skills for younger elementary students.
2. Beanbag Toss Target (2-1/2’ Goal): Pre-K students take turns tossing beanbags into the 2-1/2’ goal from a short distance. This goal height is perfect for little ones as they develop their hand-eye coordination and aim.
3. Shooting Stars (4’ Goal): Students stand a few feet away from the 4’ goal and focus on their shooting form. They must aim for the center of the goal, keeping their elbow in, and follow through with a high “shooting hand.” This activity is great for younger students to practice the fundamentals of shooting with a manageable goal height.
4. Basketball Bounce Pass (4’ Goal): Students work in pairs, standing on either side of a 4’ goal. They bounce pass a basketball so it goes through the goal to their partner. This helps develop accuracy and teamwork for younger elementary students.
5. Follow-Through Focus (6’ Goal): In this activity, students practice their shots at the 6’ goal while emphasizing a proper follow-through (hand in the cookie jar). After each shot, the teacher provides feedback on their hand position and arm extension to help them improve their form.
6. Superhero Slam (8’ Goal): Students imagine they are superheroes and take turns jumping and trying to throw a foam ball through the 8’ goal. The height adds an extra challenge, making it fun for older elementary students to practice their jumping and shooting skills.
7. Low Toss Relay (2-1/2’ Goal): Students race to toss soft balls into the 2-1/2’ goal, then run back to their team. This activity works for pre-K and younger elementary students, developing their tossing skills at a low height.
8. Around the World (6’ Goal): Students take turns tossing balls from different distances and angles around a 6’ goal. This is great for elementary students practicing their aim and accuracy from varied positions.
9. Short Shot Drill (4’ Goal): Students practice close-range shots into the 4’ goal. This helps younger students build confidence in their basketball shooting skills, as the lower height makes successful shots more achievable.
10. Sky High Shots (8’ Goal): For older elementary students, set up the 8’ goal and have them attempt long-distance basketball shots. The challenge of the higher goal height helps build shooting power and accuracy.
11. Low Catch Challenge (2-1/2’ Goal): Students take turns tossing and catching soft balls by gently tossing them into the 2-1/2’ goal, aiming to catch the ball after it bounces off the ground. This activity is great for pre-K students developing catching and reaction skills.
12. Target Toss Tower (8’ Goal): For older elementary students, challenge them to throw foam balls through the 8’ goal from varying distances. The higher goal adds difficulty, helping students develop both strength and precision.
13. Beanbag Basketball (4’ Goal): Younger students play a simplified version of basketball by tossing beanbags into the 4’ goal. This encourages early basketball skills like aiming and tossing.
14. Balloon Pass Relay (2-1/2’ Goal): In pairs, pre-K students gently pass a balloon back and forth and shoot into the 2-1/2’ goal to their partner. This slow-paced activity helps build teamwork, timing, and coordination.
15. Arc Mastery (8’ Goal): For older elementary students, the 8’ goal is ideal for practicing proper shooting arcs. Students must focus on using their legs to generate power and shooting with a high arc to get the ball through the taller goal. This activity encourages students to use proper shooting mechanics, including balance and follow-through.
