Scattergories quickly became popular with teachers because it inspires creativity and teaches players to think on their feet. It's the perfect game to build vocabulary, promote information recall, inspire creative "out-of-the-box" thinking, and hone descriptive communication skills.
How to Play
Scattergories is all about fast, creative thinking. The objective of the game is to come up with words that begin with a certain letter, based on categories that include everything from sports to food. Players score points when they come up with things that no one else does—but they only have seconds to come up with them! The more creative the answers, the more points scored!
To start, a player picks a category card to determine the subject of the next round. Next, a player rolls a die to determine which letter will be used for answers. Players then have a set amount of time to write their answers. When time is up, players compare lists and cross out duplicates. Any remaining words are graded on their creativity and complexity. Players can also challenge answers and put them to a group vote.
Set includes timer, 26-sided die, Scattergories cards, score sheets, and instructions. For 2-4 teams, ages 12 and up.
