Recess Activity Ideas Using the Deluxe Playground Pack
These recess activities are designed for kids to have fun, either on their own or with a friend, while using the equipment from the Deluxe Playground Pack. These games focus on playful movement, imagination, and light competition to keep kids engaged and active.
1. Hula Hoop Showdown: Two students compete to see who can keep their hula hoop spinning the longest. They can also add variations like spinning the hoop on their arm, neck, or legs.
2. Jump Rope Trick Contest: Students can challenge themselves or a friend to perform different jump rope tricks like double jumps, crossovers, or high knees. The goal is to see who can master the most tricks.
3. Target Cone Knockdown: Set up cones at varying distances and use playground balls to knock them down. Students can play solo or with a friend, seeing who can knock down the most cones in the fewest throws.
4. Hoop Toss Challenge: Students toss utility balls or beanbags into hula hoops placed on the ground at various distances. The further the hoop, the more points it's worth, adding a fun scoring element to the game.
5. Football Accuracy Throw: Set up a cone or hoop as a target, and students take turns throwing a football to hit or pass through the target. Play with a friend and see who can hit the target the most times.
6. Soccer Keep-Away: Two students play keep-away using a soccer ball, where one student tries to maintain control while the other tries to steal it. This playful game builds both offense and defense skills.
7. Tetherball Battles: Two students compete in tetherball, trying to wrap the ball around the pole in their direction. This is a classic one-on-one game that promotes quick reflexes and strategy.
8. Hula Hoop Roll and Catch: Students roll a hula hoop along the ground and try to run and catch it before it tips over. They can also challenge a friend to see who can catch the hoop the fastest.
9. Basketball Horse: Students take turns trying to make creative shots from different locations on the court. If a player makes a shot, the next player must match it. The goal is to avoid spelling "HORSE."
10. Soccer Goal Challenge: Students set up small cone goals and take turns trying to score by kicking the soccer ball into the goal from different angles and distances. A fun twist is to add point values based on difficulty.
11. Jump Rope Snake: Two students wiggle a long jump rope like a snake on the ground, while the other players jump over it without touching it. It’s a playful, cooperative game that keeps everyone moving.
12. Spot Hopscotch: Using vinyl spots as markers, students create a hopscotch course and play solo or with a friend, hopping between the spots while balancing on one foot.
13. Hoop Spin Challenge: Students try to spin a hula hoop on the ground as long as possible. They can challenge themselves to keep it spinning or compete with a friend to see who has the longest spin.
14. Kick and Chase: Using a soccer ball, one student kicks the ball as far as they can and then races to retrieve it before it stops rolling. This game encourages both kicking power, and speed.
15. Soccer Juggling Contest: Students practice juggling a soccer ball with their feet and try to keep the ball in the air as long as possible. They can compete with a friend to see who can get the most consecutive touches.
16. Jump Rope Challenge: Students can time themselves or a friend to see who can complete the most consecutive jumps or perform jump rope tricks like double unders and side swings.
17. Cone Maze Chase: Set up cones to create a maze, and one student chases another through the maze. The runner must navigate the cones without knocking any over, while the chaser tries to tag them.
18. Spot Quick Step: Lay out vinyl spots and students practice quick feet drills, stepping between the spots as fast as possible without missing a step. They can add a competitive element by timing each other.
19. Basketball Dribble Duel: Two students face off in a dribbling contest, trying to knock the basketball out of the other's control while maintaining their own dribble. The last player dribbling wins.
20. Hula Hoop Obstacle Jump: Set up hula hoops on the ground in a pattern and challenge students to jump between the hoops without stepping outside them. They can also compete with a friend to see who completes the course fastest.
