15 Bouncy and Brilliant Activities Using BigBopper Belly Bumpers
The BigBopper Belly Bumper from Gopher Sport is a heavy-duty inflatable ring worn around the body that adds fun and safety to physical activities. Its key feature is the ultra-durable design with reinforced seams and handles, making it tougher and safer than other belly bumpers on the market. Designed for high-energy movement and safe physical contact, these bumpers are perfect for teaching body control, balance, coordination, and spatial awareness — all while keeping students laughing and engaged. The following 15 activity ideas integrate Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and show how this exciting tool can be used across a wide variety of grade levels and group sizes.
1. Bumper Balance Battle: Two students enter a hoop-sized ring and try to gently nudge each other out using balance and body control — no running or hard hits, just steady shifting and pushing.
2. Bounce ‘n’ Back Relay: In teams, students run across the gym in Belly Bumpers, bump into a foam wall or padded mat, and bounce back to tag the next player, working on running, stopping, and rebounding safely.
3. Belly Bumper Bowling: Set up pins and have students roll into them while inside the BigBopper, promoting rolling, aiming, and body control.
4. Dizzy Dash Derby: Students spin in place 5 times, then dash to a cone and back while wearing the bumper, focusing on dynamic balance and spatial orientation.
5. Push ‘n’ Pull Parade: In pairs, one student in the bumper is gently pushed or pulled around cones by a partner, targeting cooperation and the pulling/pushing fundamental skills.
6. Waddle Walk Races: Students must waddle from one end of the gym to the other in their bumpers without letting the bumper touch the walls or other students, improving core stability and spatial awareness.
7. Bumper Freeze Dance: Students dance freely in their Belly Bumpers, but must freeze when the music stops. Anyone who loses balance sits out a round, encouraging control and coordination.
8. Belly Tag Bonanza: Select 2 taggers wearing BigBopper Bumpers. They must tag others by gently bumping into them. Tagged players do five jumping jacks to re-enter.
9. Pin Protector Pop-Off: Each student guards a foam pin using their bumper. Opponents try to bump the pin over without falling themselves. Teaches dodging, defending, and agility.
10. Hop 'n' Bop Marathon: Students hop in their bumpers from one line to another, combining hopping and balance with laughter and resilience.
11. Ring of Fire Rumble: Groups form a circle. On command, two students enter and gently try to bump the other off balance without stepping out of bounds. Others cheer and rotate turns.
12. Team Train Trek: Teams line up, each student in a bumper, and must move as a connected “train” without breaking the chain. Great for teamwork and synchronized movement.
13. Belly Bounce Basketball: Use a low goal and play a bump-friendly version of basketball where contact is allowed — as long as it's bumper-to-bumper!
14. Capture the Cone Crash: Two teams race to grab cones in the center of the gym while wearing bumpers. If two students go for the same cone, a belly bump decides the winner.
15. Scooter Smash Challenge: Students ride scooters while wearing bumpers and must bump softly into others to tag, emphasizing upper-body control and coordination.
